Coping skills that can be taught to children:

Although typically school personnel will refer children suffering from PTSD to mental health professionals, there are some simple skills that counselors and even teachers can use with children in the aftermath of trauma that can help children cope, and regain the confidence to focus once again on their schoolwork. The following techniques have been utilized for decades and shown to be effective in numerous studies. These coping skills are particularly well suited to combating the types of symptoms children experience after trauma exposure.
